Getting started
What does QR stand for?
QR stands for “Quick Response”. A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode that a phone or other compatible device can read to open information such as a website address.
Do I need technical experience?
No. Paste a complete web address, review the preview and choose the file format you need. The important guidance stays visible throughout.
How do I create a QR code with QR Rhino?
Enter the complete web address you want people to visit, create the QR code, check the preview and scan-test it. Then download the finished code as PNG or SVG.
Can I try QR Rhino without creating an account?
Yes. The homepage test lets you create one static QR code and download it once as PNG or SVG without signing up. Create a Free account to make and save more static codes.
How much will Pro and Business cost?
Pro will launch at £15/month or £150/year. Business will launch at £30/month or £300/year. Each annual option gives the equivalent of two months free. Both paid plans are still Launching soon and cannot be purchased yet.
Can I use QR Rhino on mobile?
Yes. The generator is designed for desktop and mobile, with the full creation and download flow available on smaller screens.
What can I link a QR code to?
Any complete public HTTP or HTTPS address, including a website, booking page, social profile, online menu or hosted PDF.
Static codes and destinations
What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?
A static QR code contains its destination, so changing that destination means making a new code. A Dynamic code uses a permanent QR Rhino link whose destination can be updated later. Dynamic QR codes are planned for paid plans and are not included in Free.
Can I change the destination after printing?
Not with a Free static QR code. Its destination is fixed after creation, so always scan-test the final file before printing. Editable Dynamic QR codes are planned for paid plans.
What if I enter the wrong web address when creating my QR code?
The address is built into a static QR code. Correct the address and create a new code before you use or print it.
Can I turn an existing static QR code into a dynamic QR code later?
No. An existing static code has its destination built into the image and cannot be converted after printing. You would need to create a new Dynamic code on a future paid plan.
Do QR codes expire?
A static QR code image does not expire, but it only remains useful while its destination is available. A future paid QR Rhino Dynamic link will work while the code remains active and the service is available.
Is there a limit to how many times a static QR code can be scanned?
No. A static QR code has no built-in scan limit. It can be scanned repeatedly while its destination remains available.
What happens if the website linked to my QR code stops working?
The QR code will still contain the same web address, but visitors will not reach the intended page if that address is removed, changed or offline. Check important destination links regularly.
Does the current version track scans?
No. Free static QR codes are not tracked. Scan analytics are planned for paid Dynamic plans.
Downloads and ways to use your code
Which file types can I download?
QR Rhino offers PNG and SVG. The one-time homepage test allows one download in either format. With a Free account, you can save static codes and download them again.
Should I download my QR code as PNG or SVG?
Choose PNG for websites, emails, presentations and everyday documents. Choose SVG for professional print, signage or designs that need to stay sharp when enlarged.
Can I resize my downloaded QR code?
Yes, but keep it square and in proportion. Do not stretch it horizontally or vertically. SVG is especially useful when you need a much larger code without losing sharpness.
Can I use the same QR code in several different places?
Yes. You can use copies of the same code on different materials when they should all lead to the same destination, such as a leaflet, poster and business card.
Can I use a QR code on business cards, posters, menus or packaging?
Yes. QR codes work on many printed and digital materials. Make the code large enough to scan, maintain good contrast and test it where people will actually use it.
Can I display a QR code on a screen instead of printing it?
Yes. You can display a QR code on a computer, tablet, presentation or digital sign. Make it large and clear enough for a camera to recognise.
Does the website my QR code points to need to be mobile-friendly?
It is not required for the QR code itself to work, but it is strongly recommended. Most people scan codes on a phone, so the destination should work well on a small screen.
Scanning and print quality
Does someone need a special app to scan my QR code?
Usually not. Most modern iPhone and Android cameras recognise QR codes directly, although some older devices may need a scanner app.
Does someone need an internet connection to use my QR code?
A phone may recognise a QR code without an internet connection, but it needs a connection to open a website or other online destination.
Can I test my QR code before downloading or printing it?
Yes. Review the preview and destination before downloading. If the preview is on another screen, scan it with your phone; then also scan-test the final downloaded or printed code.
How do I make sure a printed QR code scans reliably?
Use strong dark-on-light contrast, keep the clear border around the code and avoid stretching or cropping it. Size it for the expected viewing distance, then test the final printed version on more than one phone if possible.
Why might my QR code not scan?
Common causes include small print size, poor contrast, blur, stretching, a cropped clear border, glare, a curved surface or poor lighting. Test the finished version before distributing it widely.
Can I remove the blank space around my QR code?
You should keep it. This clear area is called the quiet zone and helps scanners identify the edges of the QR code. Cropping it can make scanning unreliable.
Can a QR code be printed on a glossy or curved surface?
Yes, but reflections and curvature can make scanning harder. Test a physical sample before a large print run, especially on packaging, bottles or glossy signs.
Why do some QR codes look more complicated than others?
The amount of information encoded affects the pattern. Longer web addresses can produce denser codes. Keep the downloaded image clear, square and properly sized regardless of its pattern.
Are QR codes safe to scan?
A QR code is another way to share information or a link. Treat unfamiliar destinations with the same caution as unfamiliar web links. QR Rhino creates codes from the addresses entered by their creators; destination websites are separate from QR Rhino.
